The Bird’s & The Bees
We are inviting the birds and bees into your backyard in celebration of spring. Conserving resources and creating habitat for birds and insects is the inspiration for this garden.
We are challenging the traditional garden aesthetic by approaching the garden as art, while promoting sustainability in the landscape. As we grow older complicated gardens will become more of a chore. Water will become increasingly precious and expensive. Concerns over bees, birds, and insects will grow only more acute.
Water conservation is demonstrated at our art studio by harvesting rainwater from a purifying green roof. A chain is used as a downspout to transport water into an underground cistern to celebrate the rain and serve as a sculptural element in the garden.
We integrate biodiversity into the garden using native plants. Trees, shrubs, and perennials are chosen based on the number of caterpillar species utilize that plant as a habitat. Masonry walls provide insect habitat in an artful way. Bird houses, insect hotels and feeders can be seen throughout.
Celebrated Ohio artist, Charlie Harper, inspires us to look at nature through minimal realism. This garden reflects these realities in nature. Paver mosaics, tiles, and sculpture are all inspired by his art.
