“The Sanctuary” Safari Golf Course
Much like the Columbus Zoo, we pride ourselves in being stewards of the land. Our philosophy leads us to create sustainable outdoor spaces that become sanctuaries for both the wildlife and people who reside in them. Gardens can accommodate relaxation, entertaining and recreational activities while still providing opportunities to interact with nature.

Our garden depicts the essence of the Safari Golf Club in an abstract manner within a modern garden aesthetic. The curvilinear retaining walls represent the forms and shapes seen on the fairways. Landforms create the impression of walking amongst the hills and valleys of the course as we transition from manicured lawn into the natural landscape.

At Hedge we encourage our clients to look beyond just decorating their properties with plants. We believe that each property can make a positive impact on the environment. By utilizing native plants, we can provide food and shelter for wildlife. Constructing a water feature can provide a water source for wildlife. Removing invasive plants from our properties also positively impacts wildlife. Since 2013, up to six acres of the golf course have been made “native areas” by removing invasive non-native vegetation and planting native species.

The Safari Golf Club holds the title of a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. Hundreds of eastern bluebirds and purple martins have fledged from the course since 2008. We have celebrated this by displaying nest boxes for these birds in our garden.

So please stop by our garden sanctuary to prepare yourself for spring. An outdoor bar with a concrete countertop has been constructed to enjoy a cocktail or two. Enjoy the sounds of water while you breathe in the fragrant crabapple blossoms. Or just sit down and enjoy the display of color provided by azaleas, rhododendrons, and tulips.
